After a 4 years hiatus Bundesliga Bowling in Singapore was back with a bang! Immediately moving to the “Meisterschaft” for the 2023/24 season the surprise winners SpG Eintracht Hamburg left the strong competition from FC Bayern München, SC Freiburg and title holders VfB Stuttgart behind securing the coveted Pasch-Ege-Gedächtnispreis Meisterschale for the next year.
FC Bayern started “meisterlich” into the competition winning against the Zweitligisten 125.0 pins (all scores average per bowler) 84.0 and VfB Stuttgart won the Derby against SC Freiburg 90.3 to 80.5. Second round games were won by FC Bayern and SpG Eintracht Hamburg before final group games put 3 teams with 6 points each, FC Bayern, SpG Eintracht Hamburg, VfB Stuttgart, leaving SC Freiburg winless at the bottom of the table.
But, in the following play-offs the underdogs turned the table and SpG Eintracht Hamburg beat FC Bayern clearly with 158.5 pins against a still remarkable 125.0. The third place battle was much closer with SC Freiburgs 95.5 pins against VfB Stuttgarts 95.0, avoiding a draw followed by sudden death by 1 pin.
Switching the kick-off, or better to say throw-off, time to a more fan friendly afternoon tournament, was successful and future tournaments may follow the same timing, as it also leaves more time for a relaxing dinner at Brotzeit after the tournament. Watch out for “DfB-Pokal” in Bowling in Singapore later this season before we start into the new season with the full program again with “Trainingslager”, “Meisterschaft”, and “DFB-Pokal”, as it became clear that players became rusty due to the long Covid-break as results were nowhere near previous highs.
